Mother's Day is usually a time of celebration, but for some the time can be filled with pain and sorrow. For those who have experienced the death of a child or a mother, for those struggling with infertility, or for those who have a difficult relationship with their mother, here are some suggestions for getting through this difficult time.
Acknowledge your loss and the difficulty this day brings. Use your loved one's name in conversation. Plant a living memorial such as a tree or flowers. Visit the grave site. Light a candle. Share a memory or picture of your loved one. Don't try to minimize the loss. Experience self care, pamper yourself. And remember that we are here with comfort, hope and healing to help you.

Our Volunteer appreciation event was held Monday evening, April 11. It was an amazing night filled with awards, raffles, great food, great cake and lots of laughter. It was great to see so many of our volunteers there having a good time. Our guest was inspirational speaker Glenda Standeven, one of the three authors from the book "Choosing to Smile". Maple Ridge-Mission MLA Marc Dalton spoke in the Legislature today to acknowledge the invaluable work of the Mission Hospice Society.
"Founded in 1985 to provide compassionate care and support to the dying and the bereaved, the hospice emphasizes "care not cure" for those who are in the final stages of life. Executive Director Kim Skinner truly believes that aligning oneself with the Mission Hospice society means working with a team of dedicated professionals, committed volunteers and generous donors who share the vision of quality hospice care for everyone in the community," said Dalton.
